Canada Post has unveiled a commemorative stamp celebrating the 100th anniversary of the discovery of insulin by Frederick Banting, Charles Best, James Collip and John Macleod at the University of Toronto. The ground-breaking discovery of insulin put Canada, Canadian researchers, and the University of Toronto’s medical school on the world stage. The stamp goes on sale April 15, available at select post offices and online at canadapost.ca
The new stamp was unveiled by Grant Maltman, Curator of Banting House, at a virtual conference at 5:20pm EST on 14 April 2021. The conference was entitled “100 Years of Insulin–Celebrating Its Impact on Our Lives,” sponsored by the Diabetes Action Canada and the Banting & Best Diabetes Centre, University of Toronto. It featured people and families living with diabetes, along with experts in the field, who will discuss current advances in managing diabetes, new technologies, and future directions.
